Motor Guitar
From
the punk movies of the fifties, it became evident that the electric
guitar and motorcycle were first cousins!
As a teenager in the
late 60's the first eight chords of "Born to be Wild" were a bugle
call to roar off on your chopper, preferably with your axe
strapped on your back.
This guitar was designed around these concepts,
plus the similarity of the shape of a chopper without the forks
and front wheel. to offset electric guitar bodies. (Further proof that the guitar and bike are related).
Building this instrument was pure fun, especially getting the
circuit working for the engine sounds. With separate control buttons
for REV and IDLE on the crankcase (pickguard cover), every song
sounds like you're playing while roaring away on your bike.
The
MotorGuitar starts by pulling down the vibrato arm (machined like
a kick starter), and pressing the rev button. Output jacks are
at the ends of the exhaust pipes, one for the guitar circuit,
the other for the engine sounds. Balance is adjusted with the
guitar output volume. With 2 jacks, you can get stereo sounds
and if the guitar is put through effect boxes, the engine sounds
aren't changed. There's a disc brake on the wheel, but it won't
stop the music.
Rock on!
