King of Bass
Sculpture has been defined as
releasing a shape or form from a block of material. A bass guitar,
with its size and power suggested a powerful beast. In a rock
band, the bass guitar underlines all other sounds, like a lion's
roar in the jungle.
The challenge with this instrument, was to
select blocks of wood to match the lion's body. Figured maple
often called "Tiger Striped" was used for the muzzle, chest,
and hind legs. The tail was made of birds eye maple to give it
a mottled or tawny look, and the main and tail end were carved
of blocks of mahogany inlaid with satinwood. The eyes were made
of yellow and green pearl to glow in the light, and whiskers were
classical guitar strings, sometimes called "catgut". The traditional
bass guitar head takes on the shape of a lions paw, with claws
of tortoiseshell.
Common to all Exotic Guitars, King of Bass features
one piece neck and body for excellent sustain.
